Pc wont boot

My PC wont boot after I replaced my aging cpu cooler. When I swiched cpu-cooler I demounted one memory module, and then mounted it again before starting the pc. Nothing happens - I then demount the memory again and reboot and the pc goes into bios and the cpu setting reads 1000 MHz instead of my usual 1333 MHz.

The PC wont start with both memory modules! What is wrong?

What happens is that you can here some sort of start up
procedure, fans starting etc, one beep and then nothing. I have tested all three slots on the mainboard with both memories and all slots work and both memeries work, just not together.

i have this problem when my cpu is running at dodgy speeds, although i just let it be for 20 seconds and it resets.

have you tried the memory in another board? see if anything wrong with it thats all i can think of atm

Thanks Jake, no I havn't tried it on another board yet, but I think maybe I gonna have to. Or I'll just turn it in and let some pro test it.

what motherboard do you have?
old viachip motherboards seem to dislike mem's that are of different class.. check bios and lower the class of mems..

Fist I can tell you that the one "beep" means that there are no problem at all when the mainboard checks up the system while booting.

As kottetrance says some KT133 chipset do not like 3rd part memory.

There are three possible fault causes;

1. The memory module does not work
2. The memory slot does not work
3. Your chipset does not like the memory module
