Radeon or FX series?

Yo peeps, I'm in the process of byuing a new PC and I'm havin some difficulties with the graphics card.
The Radeon 9800 Pro seems like the best choice compared to the FX 5600 series, but then again 9700 pro is almost the same as 9800.

would be happy as a pig 'n mud if anyone had any ideas.

If I was buying one of thoose card I would definitely choose Radeon 9800 Pro

Now either its a typo or nobody else saw this ultra unfair comparison. A GeForce FX 5600 compared to a Radeon 9800 pro???!!! In that case there is no contest. But if you throw the FX 5900 Ultra in the mix
its a whole different picture. Where as I would have to pick the GeForce FX 5900 Ultra Hands down. Check this article on Tomshardware and then make a desicion.

This site is my personal favorite and he lists all the current cards on the market and benchmarks them accordingly. Hope that helps you out.

Well Nate...it all depends on how you want run your card and your games.

If you turn of all FSAA and Aniso on the FX5900 then there is more pure power on the FX compared to 9800...BUT as soon as you turn on the features on 9800 it´ll just rock the Big Jeezuz out of the FX..and also the quality on 9800 is by far much better.

So if you´r a performance junkie then go for the FX5900...but if you want som nice and goodloking games then go for the 9800.

Now don´t get me wrong here...FX is stilla good card..with nice performance even with all features turned on..BUT 9800 still has that little extra ya know.

I do agree with you on the image quality. ATI has some awesome talent on thier front. I do believe though a few more Detonator driver revisions can put Nvidia back on top. But your right either card is the Next-Generation and both would do the job just fine.

Havent tried to bench it yet. Tbh, I dont know how to....

Tried it in Splinter Cell though, turned everything on, and it judt kept purring along.... *Drools*

As for Half Life 2, can you imagine the CS mod? Gotta be awesome....

Well you can try FutureMark03 or you can try 3DMark2001 OR you can use SiSoftSandra

Wanna learn about overclocking and benching?
Go to www.xtremesystems.org , and head to their forums.....
Alot of the best overclockers in the world go there, and they do NOT allow flamefests.

Not trying to steer folks aways Mods, just another place to hang out is all, and if it bothers you I will suggest no more sites.

If you don't know this stuff, you will learn ALOT by heading there and reading up, as alot of them folks take their clocking to XTREME levels.

BTW I personally would go with the 9800P.... I don't care what THG says.

Personally, I would go for ATI... just that their image quality always was a bit better (i don't mean AA or anisotropic filtering, but just plain 2D quality) than NVIDIA...

But that could as well be the fault of my Matrox addition.

Disregarding this, I would say read a few reviews, and then buy the best performer of both of them. Or the one that brings the most for your money.
