Howdy folks Wink

A review suggestion from me for the future when you have enough resources or a chance, something I actually look for and find a lot of gaps in knowledge around and nonsense about patrolling around...

Does changing the CPU give better performance in any of the regular games? Shocked

I am talking about possibly E4300, E6420/E6600, X6800, QX6700/QX6800 all compared on ONE same mobo (like any of P5D, P5W, P5B, 680i, Commando, [D]S3, BadAxe2, etc) when having the same RAM/settings and one G80GTX of any variant, oc'd or stock, preferably stock.

Games could be SupCom, FEAR, HL2, Quake4, FarCry, Doom3, Oblivion, COD2, BF2142, RVegas, STALKER, Need4Speed:carbon, etc.

Test resolutions I believe should be gamer ones. Like 12x10, 16x12, 19x12, 20x15 mostly.

So you test one CPU at one setting (4AA/8AF or 4/4 I reckon) and going through all the resolutions in one game, then another CPU, then another, until you move onto another game. Big job, I know. Maybe 3 games would be enough, I think they would. Twisted Evil

That would be very interesting to see.
Personally I've done the testing myself over the last 7 or so months since when I first bought an eVGA 680i MB with 3 C2Ds. Then got another C2E and then another C2E that I have now. It didn't make much of a difference at all, unless one used a non-native monitor resolution which puts the load on the CPU.

Any thoughts?

I know its a big ask with the doing, and especially resource wise, I'm just throwing out a possible suggestion for the future.

Smile

What you're looking for is a CPU roundup with focus on the graphics? Interesting Think

Of course it does, but don't expect any miracles. Smile

Through personal experience, I have noticed that when upgrading to a faster processor on the same card, you will generally experience less congestive slowdowns, and less dipping in your framerate.

In some cases, a slow cpu can bottleneck a graphics card in demanding games, and in benchmarking.

Basically yea, trying to show others IF a modern 1.8Ghz C2D at stock clocks needs upgrading at all for better gaming. I've been searching online for 6 hours on and off now without any luck of finding this sort of review...

I'll be back. Wink

Ah, here you go:

That's a shorter version of what I'm talking about but exactly on the same lines. Smile

I could do it with my IP-95 and Unichrome graphics... There would be no change in gaming performance whatsoever. Razz

I was thinking the same thing magicman...

I have 2 Intel C2E's, an old P4 and a K7 here.

Send me a top class motherboard, all the games (make it 12 please), a 30" monitor and 2 C2D chips and I'll write up a bonanza in writ for all! Smile

I'll pay you rent when I send them back. Razz

Bonanza is an American word?¿

That originates from the discovery of gold mines?¿

No idea where it originates from but yeah, it's used casually to mention "a great source", "great wealth" or "to bring fruitful gains and prosperity" in the western world. Wink

So in this context, a godsend article Smile
