I am in a dilema and i do not know what to choose! I think that ATI will be the new winner, because of the very low prices.
I am between 4870 and GTX260.
1: Pricing___The GTX 260 is 80Euros more expensive than the 4870.
2: Physics___I do not know many about the Nvidia and the Havok engine.
3: Performance___The 4870 is just a little bit better than the GTX260.
4: Overclocking___THe GTX260 impressed me a lot.It manged to reach the performance of the GTX280 in some games. The 4870 is a powerful card but i was not impressed by the OCing a lot.
5: Temperatures___As always the Nvidia GFXs do better in the Temperatures.
6: Power Usage___The Nvidia GTX200 series impressed us a lot.In idle they managed to do very well. The 4800 series manages to perform the same in load but the winner in idle is Nvidia.
I wonder if crysis is playable in very high details at 1280*1024.Does anyone know?? _________________ GREEK RIFLEs!!

A bit worried it's too big to run CrossFire, but maybe I'm exaggerating?

The card are of normal size, the thing that worries me is that the ORB cooler is so big that the cooler of the upper card will be too close to the lower card, but maybe I'm just being overcautious?

I'm guessing in the area of $499 and slightly less euros.

I'm actually liking the 4850 on terms of price/performance.
The 4870 IS a faster card however, but only by about 30% in benchies.
The way I think of the 4850 is: Imagine when the 8800 GTX was released. Now imagine being able to buy it for 199 USD.
The 4870 on the other hand is more of a water cooled 8800 Ultra, better performing, but WAY more expensive.
GTX 260 is now US 299 (gee I wonder why)
GTX 280 is now US 499 (scared, perhaps?)
Oh, and by the way, I've seen some WEIRD tests that show the 8800 Ultra beating the GTX280 (I know, right?) and I've even seen the 260 beat the 280 which makes absolutely no sense at all. _________________ I'm just your average hardware loving guy. |
