I did it. No turning back now. Me and a colleague decided to order one each, this is the item:
The 60GB version. Specifications (from OCZ):
| Code: | Available in 30GB, 60GB, 120GB, 250GB capacities*
Read: up to 200 MB/sec**
Write: up to 160 MB/sec**
Seek Time: <.1ms
Onboard Cache:
(30-60GB) - 32MB
(120-250GB) - 64MB
Slim 2.5" Design
100.2 x 70 x 9.3mm
Lightweight 77g
Operating Temp: -10C ~ +70C
Storage Temp: -55C ~ +140C
Low Power Consumption: 2W in operation, .5W in stand by
Shock Resistant 1500G
RAID Support
MTBF 1.5 million hours
2 year warranty
Part Numbers
30GB - OCZSSD2-1VTX30G
60GB - OCZSSD2-1VTX60G
120GB- OCZSSD2-1VTX120G
250GB - OCZSSD2-1VTX250G |
It should hold Vista and some programs without issues. Going to take out the 250GB 5400RPM, put it in an external firewire (if I can find one) or USB cabinet, and put it on the back of the monitor so I have some storage with me at all times.
What do you think?
I've been looking around for reviews and benchmarks but I haven't found any... _________________ Open Source > * |

Good luck with that one. Last I heard the SSD's still behave a little erratically when running an OS off of it, but I guess you'll find that out. _________________ Man, or woman, or both?

Cool
Let's see how it performs.

Yeah, I'll post benchmarks. I should get it mid February. This SSD doesn't use the infamous (crappy) JMicron controller, so that's a good sign at least. _________________ Open Source > * |

I just cancelled the order. OCZ does not have a date when it will ship to retailers.
Perhaps Intel will lower the prices of their SSDs... _________________ Open Source > * |

I know. Not enough, though, since Vertex is supposed to match the Intel in read speeds and utterly crush it in writing speeds... _________________ Open Source > * |

Awesome review, thanks for taking the time!
I would LOVE to pick one of those things up, but whenever I look at the price I cringe in pain. Performance is amazing though!
I'm glad OCZ went with IOPS instead of r/w, its just not worth the extra throughput if you take a huge hit in system response. _________________ Phenom II @ 3.5ghz/1.4v/2000mhz HTT | 4 x 2gb Gskill Pi Black 930mhz 2.1v @ cas4 2T | 4870 512mb @ 850/4400 | Gigabyte 790gx SB750

Sorry, it's not my review , I haven't got the SSD yet. Getting it any day now, realistically next week...
Yeah I'm glad too that they listened to their users and went with the firmware that gives us higher IOPS, no more stalling, and perfect for an OS to be on there. _________________ Open Source > * |

I'm sorry, but...
Vista boots in 18s from bootloader to desktop, and everything starts instantly when clicked (almost). No need to worry about things slowing down when you do more than 1 thing at once, like installing a game, vmware, torrents + browsing + starting a game etc. Everything's just so smooth now...
I'm in heaven! _________________ Open Source > * |
