In a desperate attempt to make some money, and be lazy at the same time, I concocted a ridiculous clusterf*ck of case/cooling/system swaps that put about $100 into my pocket and left me with this:

E6600 (L629B, apposed to the L629A I had)
EVGA A0 680i mobo
2X 7800GT 256mb with Arctic Cooling coolers (already have a pair of waterblocks at hand for them too. Twisted Evil )
Silverstone Zeus 750W PSU

And I got my old Aerocool Mastage case back! Party

Basically, it was a poor-man's Stacker. Laughing

Now, the guy I had sold it too, also had me upgrade him to watercooling. After a while it just wasn't cutting it, so I sold him a friends Stacker2 with 240mm loop. I got his 120mm loop with the case. So...

I've currently got it running at 3.8Ghz @ 1.43V. I'm still playing with the ram, but I've had this up to almost 1200Mhz on an Intel board, I just have to figure out the sub-settings and I'm sure this 680i will have it flying!

Now I also just ordered a 240mm rad that will fit nicely in the front. I'm going for 4Ghz! Twisted Evil (and no supercooling this time, no $$$) Wink

Good luck getting your e6600 to 4.0ghz, I never got more than suicide screen shot runs at those speeds with mine, even lapped and water cooled. Post your settings if you do, my 680i is sitting in my closet and I'd love to dig it out and try to get to 4.0 stable again >.>

Also 7800gt FTW!

Well, that L629A was a twin of one MM had posted at ~4.1Ghz air (~6C ambient though). I got it (mine) to 3780mhz stable on normal air (and only 1.5V).

This one is a B revision, which I have read good things about.

I actually just got it locked in dual 32M super_pi and PCmark05 stable at 3.8Ghz (1.43V). The problem was the ram. Tweaked that and boom! Ram is at 1110 stable.

Switching from vista to XP now, and then pushing 3.85.

I really wish I still had my 8800GTX for it though. My PCmark scores would be ~4000 points higher. Any of the video tests are scoring ~1/3rd what that did... But when the new rad arrives, I'll atleast get these 78s into SLI.

What you really need is something that is less 2006'ish. Wink

But hey, I don't really care, good to see you back.

What I need is a job. But I've got this, so I'm happy for now. Laughing

Going over to XP64 added 600 points to PCmark05! I just installed the newest nForce drivers, and am running the suite again. My HDD scores seemed low... But the vid scores are where they should be now.

Can never win...

So RAID up a few Fusion-IO drives and you should be all set. Wink

Why not steal that new X25 PCIe drive from Intel while I'm at it...

So, new drivers installed. Now it crashes as it finishes the last test... Blarg...

You could always try to find an old 8800gts 640. They're dirt cheap here in Cali, and are way better than 7800gt.

Being unemployed that new rad and fans (under $50 in total) basically drained the pot. And it's not like I'm going to be setting any records with that either... So I'll just stick with this gear for now.

Slipstreamed XP fail.

Back to a cleaner XP64.

HDD still low... like ~50Mb/s too slow compared to vista... But the vid scores are back where they should be.

I wonder if an older forceware version would be better... Neutral

Well that did it. Some modded driver packs from the nForcersHQ did the trick. Full speed vid and Hdd now.

Finally, I can return to OC'ing the piss out of this thing.

What kind of magical cooling do you have on that ram? 1100mhz cas4? Shocked

Nothing special. It's non Micron ICs. Runs luke warm at best...

Had to use my finger to get some of the graphite back off the board. Now I still get a little sag (0.015V) but it's not locking up anymore. Pushing for 3850Mhz right now. 1.45V, so I still have lots of room. And with better cooling on the way, I'm getting impatient.

3Dmark06 is running, and man is it slow compared to what I remember (8800GTX).

Received and installed new Rad. 240mm up front, 120mm in the rear.

Unfortunately, my Koosah's backplate stands off too much to fit... No SLI for me. At least not until my friend gets back from his month long tour on the Coast Guard ship, and gets me the stock cooler out of his storage... Blarg.

Oh well, 360mm of rad and 300+CFM all for the CPU.

You know, after building and filling my loop last night, and taking the time to get all the air out, I JUST realized I could have watercooled my bottom card since the top one won't fit. Embarassed

Laughing
