Start with 50lbs of peeled A/C unit...

Some lexan...

I made a nice Jig for sanding and assembling...

I still need to decide what to use to seal the copper lines water-tight. I might use either auto fiberglass or super glue (acrylate) gel. Silicon would seal the best, but I'm worried it might come unstuck.

There should be more coming including the electronics and likely an enclosure. It may take a little while, but it should freakin OWN some processor temps Smile

Cheap too Smile

Now this looks interesting. I've got an old one out in the garage...

Keep us updated. I'd be interested to see if it's 24hr stable ( or at least 8 ) and how much power it draws...

Not to mention what you're going to do with your hoses, and the condensation that will form on the line from the chiller to the cpu...

After testing some of the available bonding agents, the fiberglass had an obvious advantage, but it sets very fast and is then difficult to work with.

It leaked of course, but after some inspection with a flashlight the acrylic joints look great. Somehow there was a small pinhole through the fiberglass "plug" somewhere.

Problem? Leak

Solution? More fiberglass... Smile

It is now holding water and will hopefully stay that way.

There should be several safety features when the controller is ready

Accurate to 1/4 ºC

If i am seeing right, that says 21.5C I get lower that that With the Elite on a QX9650.My other QX9650 is cooled by the 12TEC Boreas chiller, and at 4GHz was at 30c. Once i changed the stock fans it dropped to 26c. Now the QX9650 that the Elite is cooling is running stock speed with temps @ 18c-20c-22c-18c. I hope you get some sub zero temps when your finished,!

My daughter was born last October of last year Smile

Now my sex life can exist again, it's sleep I miss out on.

In a big way this project is a way for me to work on a couple of useful skills

Its actually kind-of funny how things begin to get easy when you only need to re-work code you've already finished. It took less than an hour to tie together my LCD code with the temp sensor measurement.

You might not understand, the thermal load of the Quad and the two hd2900 combined would give that poor tec chiller nightmares Cool

If there are no surprises I hope to bring voltages up sharply Smile

I tried to waterproof a temp sensor with some fiberglass, and it seemed to have a capacitative effect when the fiberglass had antifreeze on it, and the analog reading would jump up and down about ten degrees.

I tried another one made with a coupling and an epoxy made for marine use, and it works great. I need to make one more of these and then work on the firmware.

After leaving it for a couple of days the acrylic leaked in one tiny pinhole, so I have fixed that with the acrylic agent. I think I may coat the seams on the inside with fiberglass to prevent any more.

In the picture is only where I splashed some on accident. It was a very slow leak that I almost did not notice.

It may be a bit overkill, but this marine epoxy stuff is incredible

It takes a long time to dry, but I think there may be a 99.8% chance there will be no more leaks......

It's an old trick of course, but a good one Wink

It's not finished yet, but it works (duh Wink), and no more leaks so far Smile it can bring the reservoir temp down with the load from a sink-full of hot water. It seems that the large res also help keep a large buffer so the compressor can stay off for a while. I still need to work on a couple of things like fan control (and maybe a better fan), and a temp sensor to prevent the condenser from overheating, but once I feel its safe enough to be left with my computer I will post the rest of the build

I love it when things fall into place Smile

I used the relay from the A/C parts for the compressor, of course. I then used a 13A 120V dc relay I had for the fan.

The unit is much easier to move when it is empty. It occurred to me that I can simply put the radiators I have right in the line, and the unit can be optionally dormant Wink

Woah, cool. But it looks like your radiator would benefit from some compressed air treatment. Smile

It's not over quite yet Wink I simply need to solder the circuit onto a real PCB. Those breadboards are too unreliable and if you wiggle the wires, you can cause breaks in the circuit and bad readings, catastrophe, etc. It will come along...
