Well, it's a good thing I got a 600W 15V 40A meanwell for my pelt (s) Twisted Evil

Unfortunatly, I do have bad news... My mobo bit the dust without ever booting after taking the zalman cooler off... so still no stats with the pelt.

It will power up, but not post, LCD's show "- -" instead of the normal hex codes. Express RMA in progress.

Hopefully I'll have some numbers for you thursday. Hopefully.

But I was kinda wondering, don't you need like a 600W peltier to provide sufficient cooling to the 8800? Razz

I hope not lol, they only make a huge 437w thats like 62mm across Mr. Green

Magicman, sorry to hear that, did it happen after you put di-electric grease in the socket and tried it or what?

Actually, yes...

I took the air cooler off, prepared the board for the pelt, and it was a no go. Other ppl have had the same issue with the board, and I doubt they were trying to install pelts, so I'm not entirely sure that caused it, but it could have been the catalyst.

Sorry to hear that... :/

Let's just hope you get a new one from the RMA... So you could finally show us some kick-ass scores.

What? My last scores weren't good enough for ya?

Dank, if there was a point to your question about the socket, I hope you'll share it before I fubar another board...

Okay, new board, back to the clocks I left off at... Lower voltage though... But not completely stabilized yet... Close though...

Now, I'm not sure where the problem lies... I'm currently idling at 18C while writing this, but under load I'm still seeing like 50C+, which isn't cool...

I'm not sure if there is a problem between the coldplate/pelt/waterblock or what... I probably should have shot some AC5 in there before I sealed it up, but these numbers so far aren't (too) encouraging...

Dang, I was really looking forward to some high scores with these peltiers. I really hope you find what's causing the troubles Sad

It is one of two things... Either a 226W peltier is not powerful enough for an E6600, OR, there is some inefficiency in my assembly that needs to be worked out... It gets cold, just doesn't stay cold...

I know not much about Pelts, but you say that you have a 226 w-pelt and it is cool during idle... maybe the pelt has not enough power to cool the cpu under the roomtemperature....but i think it schould Rolling Eyes well i i don't now what is with your pelt... i could just ask you some questions: lies the pelt total on the cpu? - i'm sure it does.... is the watercooler clear inside?
Well, i hope you found the problem... Smile

To me it sounds like a bad wc-mounting, but it's hard to say that much from way over here. Hope you find the problem.

I rebuilt the assembly, with some arctic silver 5 on both sides of the pelt. So far, at stock settings, I've seen -15C. Right now, I'm trying to stabilize it at 4Ghz Twisted Evil

I think the pelt is strong enough, but the Maze4 itself is my weak link... I have to get back in touch with superdank to find out, but he supposedly has some a guy building some Arctic web blocks for us...

It was a bummer to hear about your board magicman, and then, about a day later, I decide to test my MCH voltage without moving my case from where it sits on the floor, and I cross out the MCH test spot on my p5w dh. I crossed out a test spot on my x850 once, and I got a second chance. My x850 lived. My p5w dh gave me none such thing, and is totally dead. When the office is open on monday I need to try and RMA it to Asus. Hopefully it's only the board that's dead.

It was a bummer, but before I killed the board I got these 3dmarks with my 8800gtx at 651/1007 on air:

Was I discouraged about killing it? Yes, but I also found it to be a great opportunity to fit my apogee waterblock on my 8800gtx, and so of course, I did Smile

The first thing I tried was to see if the 8800gtx on air would be bottlenecked by my 3700+ san diego, and it was pitiful. There won't be any benchmarks until I get a new board, but the results of the swiftech apogee were better than I expected Smile

All stock clocks, 8800gtx on 3700+ san diego 3dmark06: Confused

I got some very good results temperature-wise, and the overclocks weren't too bad compared to the 651/1007 I was getting with the stock hsf at %100

When I scanned 681/1007 I got an artifact after about three minutes. I guess I'm short on voltage now. I ponder whether to add a trimmer for the gpu volt mod, but the SMR on my board is very tiny, and it worries me alot , but in the end, I might try it. Might play with the memory a little more too, on the original hsf I did the pencil mod for the memory at 2.05, 2.1, and 2.2 volts, but could not get even 1025 stable. I don't know if ramsinks will help.

I my also try to squeeze a pelt in there somewhere, If I do, I probably won't leave it that way very long, so I need a new board for benchmarks first. I found neoprene sheets very cheap at a local arts and crafts store. Smile

1200 @ mem should be possible. Heatsinks won't help, you'll do fine without them. ~2.15V seems to be the magic number with these cards.

676 on the core is qutie nice though without any mods.

But you know what we want to see now Wink

I picked up a ga-965p-s3 for a very good price, and was pleased with it's performance. Now I can play quake again Very Happy

I want to get some more watercooling parts, my e6600 is a bit warm now, and my 3dmarks suffered a little bit.

Mean Machine is going to be so happy when he sees all of those colors on the board Very Happy

Watercooling that GPU didn't actually help that much though... My eVGA will do 650/1000 with the stock cooler... And once I get this PCMark stable here at 4GHz, I'll have some #'s for you...

I do indeed love Gigabytes DS-lineup, but the color schemes are awful... Still, nothing compared to ECS though, or even those horrible silicon-colored Asus boards...

super dank: Is that max for the motherboard, or does the cpu/cooling limit you?

My cpu temps are holding me back. The fsb is running 457 completely stable though, with the MCH at +0.2 Smile I tried 464mhz, but the board starts getting tourettes syndrome, and if you set the MCH to +0.3 at any time, for some reason 3d framerates are about 1/3 normal.

Magicman, I promise you there is more to come with this card Smile

super dank: May I ask what kind of money you spent on that board? Seems quite promising, and if I remember correctly, it's a whole lot cheaper than the DS3 as well...

I volt modded my gpu and put a pelt on the 8800gtx, but unfortunately, when I was experimenting with my 188w peltier and some 40mm heatsinks a few weeks ago, I think I ruined it, because it won't frost anymore, and my load temps were higher than with only the apogee block. I had to take the pelt back off of the card, but here are some pics of the construction.

On water I got the gpu completely stable 752mhz at 1.552v gpu. I can play games and leave it without much worry. I was able to get the core to 779mhz, but even though it was stable, my 3dmark06 went down about 1000 points. I don't know why yet, I think I may be at a bit of a wall with this cooling. I penciled the memory up to 2.15v mem, but I guess I just don't have good luck with the memory. I could not get rid of the artifacts.

When I can afford it I am going to buy a 50mm 226w peltier and try to make that work. I might need to find a 50mm coldplate. That one will frost for sure Smile

It was a shame to have to take the pelt back out after such careful construction. Some slight adjustments and I think a 226w pelt will fit just fine

I think when I can get some more watercooling stuff, I should be over 13k Smile My cpu is still on the stock fan, and my 3dmark05 is still under 20k. I believe this is due to the current cpu clock speed.
Smile

Hot damn, man! It's like x-mas and stuff, and new year's coming up, and you crazed lunatic just keep modding and stuff? Very Happy

I gotta say, I love it. Are there any more of you guys just lying around somewhere, we could use more of you in these forums. Smile

Keep up the good work!

Oh, as for me, I broke 14k with an X1950XT 256MB, 14118p. Sadly, I never took a screenshot, since I figured "it'll find its way to the ORB somehow anyway...", but it never did... Would be pretty cool to be #1 in the world with a Core 2 Duo under 3.5GHz and fifth overall. Wink

I think I'll do some 3D tonight, since my SCPC dreams are all crumbled to dust now... My DS3 doesn't go past 490FSB, and my P5B-E Plus is like russian roulette, but I've managed to boot at 480FSB. But just once. And now it's going back to the store where I brought it, since I've never used it. Aaah, the refund. Wink
