Im new (first post) and never overclocked before and wanted to build my own system
Ok now for the real post, my birthday is coming up soon and I thought that through setting up a list for others to get me and using some of my own money I would be able to have a pretty sick system, so here is what I thought would be cool
Note: I want the mid tower case but could not find the midtower one they put the full one up twice or something, but maybe a full tower would be better.
Hope the links work even If you have to copy and paste
LIAN LI PC-P80 Black Aluminum ATX Full Tower Computer Case
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811112159
Not sure about power supply and ram but ram would be a nice one with heatsinks on already and im not sure about graphics card but maybe an asus 3870 x2
A gigabyte GA-x48t sorry if there is some misspelling
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128330
Intel xeon x3350 I heard its like the same as a q9450 and I kind of wanted to be different than the usual q6600
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117167
and the nice TEC Cooler reviewed here, the Freezone Elite
Raptor HD’s would be nice to get too
Sorry if this post is kind of sloppy im feeling kind of weird today
Also im not too sure about a xeon please someone reply. I love this site. _________________ Sig = overrated = completely necessary

Welcome
Lian-Li PC-80 is a great case, excellent choice.
Gigabyte GA-X48T-DQ6 is a good choice, but perhaps a bit unncessary if you're not going to really push things. You get far with a good P35 board today. Especially if you're not going to use more than one graphics card. Just a suggestion if you want to save some money.
Xeon X3350 is more or less the same as Q9450. I can't promise that you will have the same overclocking potential with it, but it shouldn't be that much of a difference.

I do not know which processors are good for overclocking, but i want to spend more than a q6600 and less than an extreme i want a processor that is around 500dollars and better than the q6600 for overclocking is the q9450 this processor? Or do you think i should learn with a q6600. saw one for a really good price at micro center
and i was going to start with one graphics card and see how i liked it and then get another later
also are physics and sound cards "vital" (for gaming)i think the onboard sound is good from what i can tell but im not an expert |

Q6600 doesn't overclock (or perform for that matter) as well as Q9450. I'd go for the 9450 if you can get hold of one, otherwise there's always the E8x00 CPU's which aren't exactly bad either. _________________ Man, or woman, or both?

Physics cards add a cool dimension to the games that supports it, but most games don't so there's very little reason to get one today. That is if you're not a big fan of the games that actually have PhysX support.
The (short) list can be found here:
http://www.ageia.com/physx/titles.html
Besides, now that NVIDIA has control over PhysX, you will be able to emulate PhysX using a regular graphics card soon.
A sound card with EAX 5.0 support will do something for your gaming experience, but overall it's not a necessity. Look up ASUS Xonar DX2. It's a lot cheaper than Creative's Soundblaster X-Fi, and yo get a lot better drivers.
Otherwise, there's Auzentech X-Fi Prelude 7.1, which is based on the X-Fi chip, but has better quality components and overall support.
Creative's chips are the only ones that has native EAX 5.0 support, but Xonar DX2 can emulate these effects.

ADHD lost track of remember to thank all of you, maybe i can post up some pics or something when i build its going to be fun.
If anyone has an opinion on the cooler i chose and an alternative to it with its pros and cons i would be interested in that, (right now im seeing if there is a subject in the forums related to this) |
