Imagine having one of these:
standing next to these:
  and a MX300.
Not very good scale but you get the picture
The front is plastic (of course )
The optimum would of course be trying to get a nice "wood" finish like the one on the Shuttle, needs to do some studying first, if that's what I'll decide to do.
Any suggestions on what to do with my nightmare?

I tried building a mahogony "cube" with cool shiny brass handles when I was still in the US (started three years ago when wood was still unheard of in most forums), but I ran out of time and jumped on an airplane going to Sweden I had all the stuff, ready to assemble. One day I will finish it. So yes, I think a wood finish would definitely make that stuff look good, Delph1. |

One vote for the wood idea.
I was thinking of doing a slight mod of the front as well and replace 3 of the brackets with a fan running ultra low speed to make a better airflow. With a filter and maybe a nice fan guard it might work.

I've seen these air purifiers that ionize the air and trap all the dust particles. It would bee cool to have one of those integrated into the chassis. The room just smells so....... clean..... and no more dust in the PC |

Hmm that would be kinda cool. I need one in the size of 120*120*25 <-> 150*150*25 mm though.

Ok, picked up this again. Found a nice black color to use.
However I was brainstorming with a clleague about perhaps installing watercooling for the drives instead.
The block would consist out of copperplates and copperpiping I will do myself and a pump + radiator. I need to solve som practical issues first before I can actually do this, but I'm working on it.

depending on what you actually want as a finished product, there is a cheaper alternitive...
watching infomercials, you may come across a faux-wood stain... it comes with a rounded pad that you tilt as you drag over any surface and it creates a wood grain pattern... so you just spray that case whatever base colour you want, like a super deep red, and then you use the faux-wood stain to create a dark set of grain over it...
would look like crap really close, but if someone is just scanning around your room, it would look good... and probably cost a lot less, and take less time...
it's more of a temporary solution... till you get a real one made... _________________ E6600 @ 3800Mhz | EVGA 680i | 2GB DDR2 PC8500 @ 550Mhz | 7800GT |Silverstone Zeus 750W| DD TDX 120mm waterloop |

I've actually used one of those, but it was for pastries! (a student summer job, many years ago...) _________________ Water Block Testing Alliance (www.wbta.us) |

Well I lost the camera
I have found some paint now, but I need to get a saw with very small teeth so I can saw through the plastic brackets on the front to fit the fan. Can't find the wood-dealie though, but I think I'll just go with a black finish.
