( Copied everything from my post in TechPowerUp.. Im lazy.. )
Hi all!
I just wonder some things,
what do you guys think about the new technology that comes next summer, if it's a huge difference from today?
Because i probably will get some money THIS summer (i Hope) and i want to upgrade my current system but i dont want to do it this year.. xD.
I want the best then..
But will the, for example, CPU's have like six or more Cores then today or something like that? I saw a article in Sweclockers (Swedish hardware site) that a new I7 would have 6-cores and 12 Threads. Sounds nice, but probably cost alot!
I have the patience to wait a year but not more..
Sure, hardware gets better every year but it should be fun to see others opinions and ideas.
I know that it's been an Economy crisis, but look on the positive side, something good must happen someday.
What do you Guys expect next summer? _________________ I have seen my dreams in my dreams. And my dreams are just dreams in my dreams.

What will you be using this computer for? Do you have a budget, or at least an idea of how much you can spend?
Remember: the longer you wait, the cheaper hardware gets, at least as far as price/performance goes. Right now if you don't need to convert HD videos in record time or don't mind lower synthetic benchmark scores, the AMD Phenom II's offer amazing price/performance ratio. Grab a 790gx and some DDR2 and you've got a solid build that will last a long time. Or you could grab an Intel quad core and a p45 chipset for a tried and true method and get similar performance.
To answer your actual question, I don't see much coming this summer. Intel is supposed to reveal more about their CPU/GPU hybrid and AMD will release some high end AM3 processors. The only reason to wait would be for your GPU, which changes every six months anyways. As for me, my 4870 is enough for what I like to play. We may be in the middle of a global economic recession, but times like these are a consumer paradise. The octo-core i7 based Xeon is coming, but that's about it. Expect a price-tag that's huge though.
Consumer hardware prices in Sweden has done the opposite of what it should, they've risen like mad since, say, November. A HD4870 for instance has risen from about $220 to almost $300 in that timeframe, same with pretty much everything hardware. There never was a motherboard that cost more than SEK4000 before the recession, now there's a whole bunch (about $500USD). _________________ Man, or woman, or both? Grandis spiritus, sanctus diavolos
I think i'll go on a AM3 (or AM2+) system, because they are "cheap". _________________ I have seen my dreams in my dreams. And my dreams are just dreams in my dreams.

Go for AM3 with some 1333MHz Crucial RAM. They're simply cheap D9 chips, maybe low-binned, but my PC3-8500 did 820MHz (SDR, 1640MHz DDR) CAS9 without a hitch. And they're dirt cheap, 199 SEK for 1GB stick of 1333MHz that'll probably oc to about 2GHz if you wish. _________________ Man, or woman, or both? Grandis spiritus, sanctus diavolos
I didn't know that it was 199SEK for 1 GB.. :O
I've must been blind.. heh. ^^ _________________ I have seen my dreams in my dreams. And my dreams are just dreams in my dreams.
