Intel has been touting its own Solid State Drives in slides to partners for some time now. Some of its claims have been very bold, not to say extremely bold, as Intel says that its unique knowledge of flash memory makes it possible for them to build much faster solid state drives than those we see on the market today. Not entirely unlike its claims with Larrabee, but unlike Larrabee, the solid state drives should hit the market already in the third quarter when Intel unleashes the Montevina platform, also known as Centrino 2.

DigiTimes has come across some information about the first SSDs, two to begin with. Both drives will use the SATA interface and have 80GB storage capacity, while Client X25-M uses the regular laptop format 2.5", while Client X18-M is of the smaller 1.8" format. A model sporting twice the capacity (160GB) is slated for late Q4, and 250GB and beyond next year.
