The exact specifications of the AMD/ATI RV770 is still, so close to the launch, under speculation. We know for a fact that the overall design has changed somewhat, but also that AMD will reuse the building blocks of the RV670 core. Just more and better organized. We also know that the RV770 is a bit larger than what was previously rumored, more in the area of ~280-300mm2, which should perhaps convince the still lingering skeptics that RV770 indeed has 800 shader processors. After that FXvideocards posted the texture fillrate of Radeon HD 4850 we can calculate that the RV770 probably has 40 texture memory units, rather than 32. From an architectural point of view that does makes a bit more sense. The texture fillrate is said to be 24.0GT/s and since we know that the core clock is 625MHz we can calculate the amount of TMUs by dividing the fillrate with the core clock and then we get ~38, rounded up to 40. Not proof, but certainly a possibility. There have been talks about a separate domain clock, and 32TMUs clocked at 750MHz does result in 24GT/s, but separate domain clocks hasn't been proved and we consider this nothing but speculation. |

Rather than over-thinking it, just consider that the HD4870 has a 750Mhz core freq and with 32 traditional TMUs would have the Tex Fillrate of 24 GT/s.
Sounds like someone mixed up the HD4870 fill-rate with that of the slower HD4850, rather than either some asymmetric TMU count or separate clock domainsl at least not for the TMUs, but maybe for the SPUs that also don't make sense with an equally unbalance # like 800. There either different freq or else a change in composition / calculations per unit makes more sense. _________________ It's not cold enough yet. |

It's not impossible that they mixed up the numbers.

These look like they're pretty awesome cards. From reading the reviews, it seems as though they are geared towards the budget enthusiasts, which is almost any normal person
Anyone know where to find them in Canada? I know that FXvideocards has them, and they're my best option at the time, seeing as the 4850's are 189.99. (http://fxvideocards.com/search.php?mode=search&page=1)
Do you think NCIX will price match? |

I'm a Canuck........NCIX should price match as long as you follow their rules for it, no big deal really.
NCIX's sister site, www.directcanada.com will have them soon I'm sure, and are always cheaper in price. So then you get NCIX to price match their sister site
BTW, welcome Grape!!! Interesting to see you here........... _________________

I've seen a slide that says that RV770 has 40 TMU's. Or am I not supposed to tell? I don't know. _________________ Man, or woman, or both?
