Things are not really as expected over at NVIDIA. The tide has turned and the people have taken the Radeon HD 4800 series to their hearts. Somehow just having the fastest card around didn't pan out. NVIDIA is firm in its belief though and from we've heard it has another card that will dethrone Radeon HD 4870X2 when it arrives (we do expect 4870X2 to take GeForce GTX 280 and so does NVIDIA apparently). It has not been confirmed, but it may very well be something 55nm, most likely G200b. Since Radeon HD 4870X2 is slated for late August, we should see NVIDIA's new monster around when the moon starts another lap and August turn into September.

In a way, this just couldn't look any better right now Smile

I suppose now I should feel sorry for Nvidia, instead of poor ol' Ati heh. I'm not sure I will be buying a gfx card for a good while though, I'm pretty comfortable with what I have now. At the moment I don't play any games that need it, though the time will come, I'm sure.... Wink

Since partners forced NVIDIA to make the 9800GX2, maybe 9800GX2+? Very Happy

GX2+ is not fast enough. Don't forget it will be fighting a 4870 CF, not a 4850 CF.

Just a joke Wink

I'm "guessing" 55nm G200, not dual.

Seriously, consumers are wisening up to the fact that fastest is not "best". More heat, more power consumption, more cost..........most people don't want to sacrifice a mortage payment to get an Nvidia card like that.

Besides, that kind of power isn't needed to play current games, and as for future games, who keeps their card for 3 years hoping it'll be "good enough"? What.....gonna buy these hogs to play Crysis at good framerates? Please.......that game isn't worth the effort.

ATI has managed to push an exceptionally good product (or two) to the mainstream. Nvidia needs to smarten up and realize top speed doesn't equal top profits.

From what I'm hearing NVIDIA will do _anything_ to stay competitive in the $200 segment. After trying to kill 4870X2, it is aiming to take back the performance segment, with what and how I have absolutely no idea.
