The Gigabyte Open Overclocking Championship finals in Taiwan ended about a week ago. Information about what happened at the event have been rather scarce, but over at Hardware Canucks they have published a rather detailed article that walks you through the overclocking event that included two different events where we saw one of the two "Swedish" teams at the top of the podium, Swedish national champion Jon "elmor" Sandström teamed up with Finnish overclocker Petri "SF3D" Korhonen, to form Sweden 2.

The duo managed to win the main event where the participants tried to score the highest with Gigabyte's P45 motherboard, EP45T-Extreme, in a number of benchmarks: Everest, SuperPI 1M, 3DMark2001 and 3DMark06. The Nordic team managed to collect the top spot in two of the benchmarks and brought home the trophy with a safe margin before Russia (DeDal & neoforce) on second place and USA 1 (Ross & maxi) on third.

An impressive achievement by Elmor and SF3D that really shows how much talent you can find here in the North. First price was $5,000 and some additional sponsor products worth about another $1,100. A big congratulations goes out to Elmor and SF3D for their impressive achievement. Elmor's development has been quite impressive and he has grown to become an overclocker we will keep a close eye on here at NordicHardware!

The second event of the competition was a Freestyle competition where the participants could use any hardware they want to impress the judges. Team USA 2 (Fugger & Vapor) and Team Vietnam (Recoba & tsondt) managed to break the most records, 5 to be exact, but the Americans did it by the biggest margin. As a thank you, they got a check for $3,000.

The article over at Hardware Canucks covers all of the events and the teams competing for the GOOC title. A good read for those who wants to know more about the competition.

Our own article will be posted in a while as well, but it won't have as much focus on the competition itself, but instead the entire trip.
