To most it has just been a matter of time, but to the truly hardcore enthusiasts it has been a real tragedy to see one of the most influential motherboard manufacturers to close its doors. Abit was one of the first motherboard manufacturers to really acknowledge overclocking and has provided us with tons of innovations and new solutions to bring even better overclocking potential. Over the last few years things have been a lot tougher at Abit, just like many other smaller manufacturers, and has had to step aside for the big dragons.

The company was in deep economical distress and in March 2006 it was acquired by circuit manufacturer USI that would provide a more stable economical foundation. Abit was renamed Universal abit and launched a couple of motherboards after that, but things kind of died off after a while.

In may Abit officially denied that it would leave the market, and in August new reports surfaced that said that Abit would leave the market in 2008, and now new information states that on December 31st Abit will close its doors permanently. A sad ending for a company that has been a leading contributor to making overclocking what it is today.

Good question, to be honest, it never really picked up. USI came in, very little actually happened, and then even less happened.

I think they simply lost the important people, the engineers, to other companies at times when it would hurt the company the most.
