Japanese manufacturer Buffalo has announced a new kit of DDR3 modules of its enthusiast oriented series also known as Firestix. The modules operate at record high 2200MHz, requiring an operating voltage of 2.1V. This is of course much, much higher than what Intel recommends for its Core i7 series of processors. However if you're one of the people accustomed to running things at subzero temperatures these may be worth a shot.

The modules are rated PC3-17600 with 9-9-9-24 timings. The 1GB modules are only available in kits of two. Price and availability are uncertain at this time.

I'll have a pair of these if the price is right, along with the availability. Smile

It's not much of a problem really, the instant kill voltage for Micron chips are about 2.4V. Smile

I can't mention any sources that drop hints at all but thats what I'm guessing based on knowing the DRAM MFGs were competing to ship these chips as soon as possible: http://www.behardware.com/news/imprimer/9877/

Seeing tests of the Buffalo sticks will show this up pretty well as to what voltage/timings they need for DDR3 1800-2500. At such voltage and timings and in time for CES, my guess is Elpida.

I haven't exactly been following the DRAM chip market for a while, but hasn't Elpida always sort of gone mad when fed with more than .2V than the nominal voltage? Or do they have something that's good for a change now? I'm sort of stuck with a bunch of D9GTR chips. Razz
