Intel's Core 2 processors may not be the fastest around but much like AMD's Phenom II family, Intel's Core 2 architecture has a lot to offer. But where the Core 2 architecture impress the most is when overclocked, especially since they are relatively cheap. German overclocker Angoholic decided to go nuts when he got a hold of a DFI DK P45-T2RS Plus motherboard last weekend.

Together with a Core 2 Duo E8600 processor and fellow overclocker Teurorist they managed to set a new world record in processor bus overclocking. The processor was pushed to 6180MHz, but it was the processor bus frequency at 727MHz that impressed the most.

To achieve these extreme frequencies they required liquid nitrogen to cool the processor but also the Intel P45 chipset of the motherboard. The new world record is 10MHz higher than the previous record, which bumps fellow ME4ME down to fourth place with his overclock at 715.13MHz FSB.

Angoholic system specifications;

  • DFI LP DK P45-T2RS Plus
  • E8600 Q820A598
  • 2x1GB Team Xtreem Dark 1300
  • LN2 cooling for CPU and chipset
