Linux has taken great steps forward in terms of usability, where Ubuntu has been the forerunner, and a successful such. Even if we have a relatively large share of Linux users here at NordicHardware, Linux is a fairly rare sight among the common men and women. Net Applications now reports that in April 2009 Linux reached a milestone as 1.02% of the people browsing the web was using a Linux-based machine, much credited to the popularity of netbooks.

The loser is, as always, Microsoft that dropped from 90.84% in June 2008 to 87.90% in April 2009. A reduction of almost 3 percentages, which Apple and Mac OS X grabbed the most of. Mac OS X users increased by almost 2 percentages from 7.94% to 9.73%.

Microsoft has taken more than a few hits over the last year, it's OK to blame Vista, and from what we hear Microsoft is putting a lot of faith in its coming Windows 7 operating system, which is due later this year.
