MSI was the first to launch superthin PCs with the X-Slim series and its X340 model has already appeared in stores down south. ASUS recently unveiled its thin netbooks with the U and UX series that relies on Intel's energy efficient CULV platform, just like MSI X340. Acer is following and has started selling its first thinner netbook sporting Intel's CULV platform; Timeline 3810T.

Acer has been talking about its thin Timeline series for a while but after product delays it has now launched the first model that like MSI's equivalent measures 13.3" diagonally.

It sports an Intel Core 2 Solo SU3500 processor and can be had with SSDs  and up to 8GB DDR3 memory. The base configuration gets you a 320GB harddrive and Windows Vista Home Basic for a price around $800.

Acer's netbook offers more configuration options than MSI's but on the other hand Acer hasn't managed to slim Timeline as much. X340 is both thinner (at most 20mm vs. Timeline 28.9mm) and lighter than the competition.

Acer has evidently already starting selling the netbook in Taiwan and when they will appear in North America and Europe is uncertain.
