Even if AMD already has a number of processors being made with the new, more energy and cost efficient, 45nm technology large portions of the company portfolio is still awaiting its transition from the 65nm node, to become both faster and more energy efficient. Sources indicate that AMD is planning a major 45nm offensive with new Phenom and Athlon processors coming in the third quarter.

Among others AMD will start manufacturing the 45nm dual-core Phenom II X2 500 series (Callisto) in June. At the same time the dual-core Athlon X2 200 series will be transfered to the smaller node.

The last step of the transition is expected to come in September when AMD will start manufacturing new quad-core and tri-core (Rana) processors, also found in Athlon II X4 600 and Athlon II X3 400 series, but now at the 45nm node.

Also, AMD will launch several new processors using 45nm technology over the coming months and among them are several we have covered in the past.
