Windows 7 will be one of Microsoft's best performing operating systems in a long time and even if this might not be seen in the number of frames per second in the latest games there will be many who will appreciate the lighter and quicker suit of Windows 7. Microsoft has worked hard on the support for Solid State Drives and with an already tweaked operating system a SSD should raise the bar further.
Over at HotHardware they decided to investigate this closer and test the harddrive performance in Windows 7, how regular mechanical harddrives measure up to new Solid State competitors.
First of all, Windows 7 seems to offer overall better performance than Vista, no matter if you're using regular harddrives or SSDs. Just the fact that a fast SSD could boot in Windows 7 in 30 seconds, instead of the close to 47 seconds with the fastest retail harddrive, means a lot.
