Lynnfield will be Intel's first Nehalem-based processor for the mid-range segment and even if it is still a bit foggy we're pretty certain it will be in the Core i5 family, but the most important is still the performance it delivers. We have seen some less detailed benchmarks with Intel's coming processor, but now that Computex is around the corner the samples have increased and made it possible for more people to get a hold of the chip.

At Anandtech they have published a rather extensive performance preview of Lynnfield that reveals most parts of what to expect from Intel's new mid-range processors.

An extra interesting details is that we find out how Intel uses its Turbo Mode technology in Lynnfield. Turbo Mode is already active in Core i7 but with an overclock of 266MHz at most with only one 1 core there is little performance to gain.

With Lynnfield Intel has raised the bar for Turbo Mode several times over. When the processor has one or two cores under load (games or such), the cores can overclock by 667MHz. The exact specifications of Turbo Mode was not revealed but Anandtech shows how the technology can be a real winner for Intel and that Lynnfield has a slot to fill.
