The latest fad among netbooks is without a doubt the superthin models available from most major manufacturers. Apple was perhaps the first with its MacBook Air, but the prices of Apple's model and PC incompatibility has limited the consumer interest. It took a while for the much broader PC industry to get the idea but after both Dell and VoodooPC (HP) launched its own slim laptops also smaller companies caught on but set the sight for mid-range.

MSI X-Slim, ASUS U series and Acer Timeline series are just some of the new thin notebooks that are coming or already available. The common nominator among these is that they all use Intel's efficient CULV platform.

Component giant Gigabyte has decided to join them and at Computex it presented its BookTop M1305 with 13.3" screen, only 20mm thick and with similar specifications as the competitions. But with an optical drive the computer has an ace up its sleeve compared to most other CULV notebooks.
