Apple has a tendency to create mass hysteria no matter the product it has announced and its third generation iPhone mobile phone is no exception. Apple was certain to succeed with the new model and it has prepared itself by securing a considerable amount of NAND flash memory chips to be able to meet the demand. Apple's shopping spree may have had a positive effect on the NAND flash market as a whole, which otherwise are sloping quite badly.

Apple has turned to three different NAND flash manufacturers and beside Samsung Electronics and Toshiba, Apple uses a not yet uncovered maker in the USA for supplying the iPhone 3G S with memory chips.

Around 50-70% of the total manufacturing volume of the American manufacturer will ship to Apple's fabs and with the higher storage capacity, 32GB, iPhone 3G S requires more flash storage than previous models.
