Pioneer DVR-110 is the sequel to the DVD-burner DVR-109 and Pioneer is planing on launching its new model during June. DVR-110 has been tweaked in general but the most interesting is probably the rumour saying it will support Blu-ray, but this won't be available with this version according CDRInfo. They've namely published the complete specifications for Pioneer DVR-110 and the real attraction is the increased speed for dual layer (DL) media that you now can burn at 8X-speeds.

That DL-media is still ridiculously expensive compared to regular DVD-media is of course a problem and since it is rumoured that Pioneer will continue working with improving its Blu-ray compatible unit for a July/August launch its really hard to imagine an especially bright future for DL-media. But then again we shouldnät expect Blu-ray to make a breakthrough for quite a while and until then Pioneer DVR-110 might be a nice thing to ease the waiting procedure. Below you will find the specifications.

Maximum Write Speed:

  • 16X CAV DVD-R / +R

  • 8X Zone CLV DVD-R DL (Dual Layer), +R DL (Double Layer)

  • 8x CLV DVD+RW

  • 6X CLV DVD-RW

  • 5X Zone CLV DVD-RAM

  • 40X CAV CD-R

  • 32X Zone CLV CD-RW

Maximum Read Speed:

  • 16X CAV DVD-ROM (Single Layer)

  • 12X CAV DVD-ROM (Dual Layer), DVD-R / +R

  • 8X CAV DVD-RW / +RW, DVD-R DL and +R DL

  • 5X Zone CLV DVD-RAM

  • 40X CAV CD-ROM and CD-R

  • 32X CAV CD-RW

Buffer Memory Size: 2Mbyte

Afaik I know they used NEC circuit for the 109 and this is a tweaked version of the 109, which means it is still a NEC circuit in there Sad

(I hate my current NEC3500 btw)
