Seagate D.A.V.E. is a quite unique product as it's an external harddrive designed for the mobile phone market. A clue to Seagate's new concept comes from the name, which is short for Digital Audio Video Experience. Seagate namely wants to offer people, no matter if its a mobile or a PDA, to have full access to their digital media library. To do this you need a a lot of storage, something few mobile devices have. At the same time you have to be able to communicate with the storage device and this has been solved by Seagate by integrating support for both WiFi and Bluetooth."Having already created significant buzz in the mobile phone community, the DAVE platform is an enabling technology that delivers 10-20 GB of wireless storage in an accessory smaller than many common slim-line mobile phones. DAVE technology is designed to store, play and share digital files on mobile phones, PCs, and other wireless-enabled devices."
D.A.V.E. is in other words a mobile media-streaming unit of a very slim format. The harddrive is about the same size as a credit card and weighs only 70g, which makes it possible to carry it around without trouble, right alongside your mobile phone or other portable device. D.A.V.E. is certainly an exciting concept that can become a good solution to many people's problems, but at the same time we have to ask ourselves if an additional device to carry along is really the right way to go.
