AMD RD790 is the next chipset from AMD that is suppose to rock our worlds. The RD790 is next high-end chipset that brings a lot of interesting features besides its support for the coming Phenom processors. RD790 will have dual socket and Quad CrossFire support along with HyperTransport 3.0 and PCI Express 2.0. Being such a feature-rich chipset we have to say that we were fearing that the chipset would be immensely hot. That doesn't seem to be the case though as Chilehardware now reports that the RD790 chipset will have a TDP of a mere 15W. This is actually a lot lower than today's high-end chipset where the C55 of the 680i is the perhaps worst with its 23.9W. The TDP isn't a guarantee for the chipset being cool though as the 975X (17W) has a lower TDP than the 965 (23W), but still runs hotter.

Woh, I read 15kW, which would be somewhere in parity with R600. Wink
