The Tick Tock strategy has been a huge success for Intel. Every two years, Intel will introduce a new microarchitecture and every year in between it will introduce a shrink of the last microarchitecture. It all started with the introduction of the 65nm Core architecture, which was just recently shrinked to 45nm, Penryn. In Q4, Intel will introduce Nehalem, which is also 45nm, and in 2009, Intel will start phasing out Nehalem and replace it with 32nm Westmere. Which in turn will be replaced by the 32nm Sandy Bridge in 2010. This is where most roadmaps end, but now Intel has added two yet unnamed 22nm processors, which will hit the market in 2011, a die-shrink, and a new microarchitecture in 2012.
