Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9770 isn't just the most expensive desktop processor on the market, but also the fastest. Intel went all the way when it launched its latest Extreme Edition, and we expected nothing else. Our processor and overclocking expert Robert "crotale" Kihlberg has published a number of detailed investigative articles on the Core 2 architecture in the past and has now dissected Intel's latest flagship. Taking full advantage of our test lab, he's performed advanced power measurements and leakage studies, and come to the conclusion that we seem to be dealing with high leakage processors here. The article doesn't stop there though, but continues with benchmarks, overclocking and stability tests taken to a new level, or what would you say about a two week long stability tests?

"Intel is at it again. After the recent launch of its first 45nm and so far most extreme CPU, the QX9650, it’s now time for the QX9770. The logic behind the model numbering is questionable, but what’s new with this model is 400MHz FSB, which thanks to Intel's quadruple bus give us an effective transfer rate corresponding to 1600MHz. This is denoted by the third number; 9770. The frequency has also increased to 3.2GHz (8x400), which is denoted by the second number; 9770."

So, Intel pretty much overclocked QX9650 to make it QX9770.
Too bad that QX9770 is still on C0, and that definitely does't make worthy of extra $$

Well, it seems that 9770 might be hand-picked high leakage versions of 9650, but we can't say for sure.

I think Robert get to keep as long as Intel don't ask for it back Wink
