Scythe updates BIG Shuriken, now even lower

 Scythe's platform-like CPU cooler BIG Shuriken has been updated and as we reported a while back, it's a cooler for narrow spaces. Big Shuriken is only 58mm high, which is 6mm lower than the already low precursor, but the weight has increased to 405g. This is due to an extra heatpipe for better cooling. The cooler comes with a low-profile fan from the new Slip Stream Slim series and measures 120mm diagonally and only 12mm thick. Continue reading...

XFX to conquer China as Jing Tai

 Graphics card company XFX has started up an affiliate company in China and the mother company, Pine Technologies, has decided to give it a new name. XFX is widely known in both USA and Europe, but in China the company will use the brand name Jing Tai. What we know so far is that the company will sell ATI graphics card, but if it will be a mirror of XFX or if Jing Tai will get some free space to move around remains to be seen.

Ion 2 doubles the shader count

 NVIDIA's tiny Ion platform can be found in several small and cheap systems, but still managed to deliver decent performance. Intel's integrated graphics circuits lacks performance, which NVIDIA has used to its own advantage. The GeForce 9400M graphics circuits beats Intel's counterparts many times over and now that the first specs of Ion 2 appears it looks like NVIDIA is going for a knock out in round one.  Cooling company Koolance continues to launch new cooling solutions for the latest graphics cards and this time its NVIDIA's latest graphics cards that get an overhaul. Koolance has designed slim water blocks for both GeForce GTX 275 and GTX 285 that covers the both graphics processor and memory chips. The block fits all reference cards with 1GB or 2GB memory buffer and is made from solid copper with nickel plating. NZXT Debuts Sentry 2 Touch Screen High-Performance Fan Controller

 Case maker NZXT has launched a new accessory in the form of fan controller Sentry 2. What makes Sentry 2 different from the competition is that you will not find any knobs on the front of the 5.25 unit. Instead there is a large touchscreen that is used for setting the fan speed and showing various temperatures. The controller supports up to five different fans and can be used for manual settings or automatically setting the fan speed depending on the temperature.

Micron Introduces New 34-Nanometer High-Density NAND Products

 Micron has announced that its just released 34nm NAND flash memory chips is being used with new products coming soon. The chips are considerably smaller than the previous generation and the new 32Gb MLC memory circuit is 17 percent smaller than Micron's last 32Gb chip, enabling storage manufacturers to install even more storage capacity in the same format as before. Micron subsidiary Lexar Media gas already started making several different USB memories and memory cards with the new 34nm circuits. At the same time, Micron says that the new chips will offer considerably higher transfer rates in SSDs with the new ONFI 2.1 standard.

Transcend Unveils Thermal Sensor Equipped DDR3 Memory Modules

 One of the biggest threats to stability is heat and especially during the summer it's easy for usually stable computers to derail. Processors, motherboards and harddrives have several temperature sensors to predict coming overheatings. ASUS trying to dump 7" and 8.9" netbooks

 According to sources to DigiTimes ASUS are looking to dump its stock of ASUS Eee 7" and 8.9" Eee netbooks. This since it has earlier expressed its belief that the future belongs to slightly bigger netbooks. To get rid of the Eee PCs of the 7" and 8.9" formats it is planning a big price cut within the near future. It could become quite interesting for those looking for a cheap and highly portable computer, if the performance isn't an issue.

Firefox 3 was launched on June 17th, 2008 and since then it has gone through a series of smaller updates, but now it is time to see what version 3.5 has to offer in terms of new features and optimizations.  AMD has been in the spotlight for a few weeks thanks to the stories surrounding the mysterious Phenom II 42 TWKR processor. Legit Reviews has posted the first article on the new processor that is simply handpicked samples of Phenom II CPUs with extra high leakage for better overclocking. New GeForce GTX 295 eats more power than the old one

 NVIDIA has fit two GT200 graphics circuit on one and the same circuit board with the new GeForce GTX 295 graphics card, which is an achievement by itself. The original version of GTX 295 required dual PCBs for connecting the advanced, and large, circuit, which it has now managed to shrink with a new design. The new version of GeForce GTX 295 will be cheaper to make for NVIDIA partners but the price will remain the same in stores.
