Core Duo @ 3.81GHz sets a new 3DMark 05 world record
Written by Andreas G 08 May 2006 16:46

Intel Core Duo continues to set new benchmarking records and from setting a whole row of records with SuperPi, where Intel's architectures have always been very good, they've now also been able to conquer the ORB and Futuremark's 3DMark series. Overclocker Tyrou, which earlier set a new world record with the first SuperPi 1M time under 16 seconds, has namely continued with his benchmarking and has now been able to set a new world record with 3DMark05 using a 2.16GHz Core Duo processor overclocked to 3.81GHz and a Radeon X1900 Crossfire configuration "only" cooled with a chiller at -0°C GPU temperatures.

The new world record is 20797 points, the old one was at 20667, and clearly show that Intel has been working hard with its new and more efficient processor architecture. Tyrou's complete configuration can be found below;

:: Core Duo T2600ES @ 3811MHz
::
Aopen i975Xa-YDG modded (vcore/vddr/tcore)
:: Corsair 5400UL @ 488MHz 4-3-2-2
:: X1900 XTX + CF @ 789/873MHz
:: Raptor 36GB
:: PCP 510w
:: Windows XP SP2
:: Catalyst 6.4 WHQL
:: CPU @ -100c (X³ : Cascade)
:: GPUs @ ~0c (chiller)

Unfortunately the ORB doesn't accept ATI's Catalyst 6.4 drivers for the official ranking, but you can watch Tyrous uploaded result here.
