AMD has sneaked out a Phenom II model and it's a more power efficient version of Phenom II X4 945. As rumors were going around that Phenom II X4 965 would be very power hungry we got a bit worried for AMD's power consumption of the Phenom II architecture and even if the new top model would be rated at 140W it has now taken a step in the right direction by lowering the power consumption of the 945 model from 125W to 95W.
The new model is pretty much like the old one with 3.0GHz clock frequency backed up by 2MB (4x512KB) L2 cache and 6MB shared L3 cache. AMD has evidently managed to improve its 45nm technology to the degree where it can lower power consumption and heat development at the same core clock. Whether this is the result from a lower operating voltage we don't know.
The price of the new X4 945 processor is exactly the same as the former and it is already available at most e-tailers.
