AMD has put its money on the OpenCL platform when it comes using the power of graphics processors for other tasks than games and 3D rendering. Now that it has released the fourth beta version of ATI Stream SDK v2.0 it is the first to fully support OpenCL 1.0, now certified by Khronos Group. By releasing a development platform for OpenCL AMD has opened new doors for companies looking to develop applications for not just Radeon HD 4000 and Radeon HD 5000 graphics cards but also regular multi-core x86 processors that supports SSE3 instructions.
The development of software is supported by multiple operating systems since AMD has released ATI Stream 2.0 SDK for Windows XP, Vista, 7, Ubuntu 9.04 and OpenSUSE, both 32-bit and 64-bit environments.
AMD offers the market both high-performance CPU and GPU technology, and as such we are delivering on this unique ability to provide an OpenCL platform that enables developers to create applications that run the way they were meant to be run, on all the available processors in the system!
