Intel delivers one of the most affordable and best performing Solid State series. Its Intel X25-M series generation two has a price advantage on the competition thanks to the 34nm technology and this is expected to come to even greater use with the coming X25-X series. Even though the name may hint of an even extremer model it is actually a budget model that will cost less than current models.
Intel X25-X will be specified to 170MB/s read speed while the write speed will be relatively shy 35MB/s. Access times will be the same as current X25-M models. Luckily Intel has managed to keep power consumption and prices low. During use X25-X will consume only 90mW and when idle it will drop to 75mW (X25-M is rated 150mW and 75mW respectively).
Even if the prices haven't been revealed this is supposed to be the trump of the 2.5" drive. In Q4 Intel is expected to release a 40GB derive that will be substantially cheaper than its 80GB model.
Even neither write speed nor read speed impress it does look like an interesting option for notebooks and netbooks with its lower power consumption and hopefully low price.
Since Intel X25-M G2 80GB costs less than 200€ today we expect prices to be near half of that, which makes it a lot more appealing to more than a few.
