Component maker Asustek will launch an Android phone this year, says VP Jonney Shih. He revealed this in talks with Taiwanese media, that were really about Asustek's notebook and netbook venture where, but Shih decided to confirm the first Android phone from ASUS. So far we know very little, or nothing, about the specifications more than that it will appear this year, though later than the first rumors indicated.
Whether the phone will ship under the Garmin brand like ASUS previous mobile phones the story doesn't tell. That ASUS can build most kind of electronic devices is hardly a surprise to anyone by now, but it will require a lot of work to design a competitive Android phone for this expanding market.
