Microsoft launches Windows 7 operating system today but the pre-orders of its latest operating system has exceeded expectations. In the UK bookings of Windows 7 broke the previous record held by children's book wizard Harry Potter and "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows". Considering the UK is the home of J.K. Rowling and Harry Potter this is certainly an achievement of might.
Even though it's the most pre-ordered item on the history of Amazon a comparison to the sales before Windows Vista launched is always interesting.
Windows 7 managed to attract as many pre-orders during the first eight hours as Windows Vista managed to attract during the entire pre-order period. Numbers Microsoft is most likely pleased with, and perhaps can finally admit Vista was not such a great product when it launched.
Windows 7 launches officially today and we will be follow up with more reports later in the day.
