It's been a while since Intel talked about its Braidwood technology. The idea was that Braidwood would enable better harddrive performance through flash memory cache integrated on the motherboard. In other words Intel would bake in a Solid State drive onto the motherboard. This several GigaByte large cache would work with the regular harddrive to offload and speed up program starts and frequently used data.
It looks like the technology has been put on hold and that Braidwood will not appear before 2011. The reason is poor availability of NAND flash circuits and that the implementation it is trying out with Intel P57 chipset isn't working as well as it had hoped. With Solid State Drive prices heading below $100 we can't say we mourn the technology all that much.
