Intel retracts SSD firmware update
Written by Andreas G 28 October 2009 12:50

Intel was praised when it released the new firmware for its X25-M G2 series of Solid State Drives. The company's 34nm SSDs got TRIM support while the top model also had its performance tweaked with a nice boost in write performance, up from 80MB/s to 100MB/s. It looks like the update has some unwanted side effects that has forced Intel to remove the update from its website.

Reports have been coming in from users that indicate that Intel's new firmware could cause problems with functions of the drive. Exactly what's behind it is uncertain, but the problems looks to occur with Windows 7 installations that after a driver installation makes the SSD inaccessible.

More in Intel's support forum where there is detailed information on the problems.
