Many mobile devices use Wi-Fi technology to connect wirelessly to the Internet and networks. Last month we told you about a standard called Wi-Fi Direct that will enable peer-to-peer connections with Wi-Fi devices without a router or access point. We now hear about an applications that use a similar concept, but instead turns your computer to a form of router.
Connectify requires a computer with Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2, since the majority of the code comes from Microsoft's work with its new operating system, and a Wi-Fi network card. With Connectify activated you can connect to the network through Wi-Fi with other notebooks, mobile phones or other Wi-Fi devices.
The network sharing requires no software to be installed on the connecting units and the signal is encrypted with WPA2-Personal (AES) to make sure no unauthorized devices can connect. More information on the program and downloadable beta version at Connectify's website.

Connectify depends on improvements made in Windows 7 to operate. Frankly, Windows 7 is such a big improvement, that we suggest you're better off upgrading than waiting for us to get all this working on an older version of Windows.
