They realize that when the retail version of NVIDIA's dual-GPU graphics card
appears the interest for the complete packages supplied by them will drop. By
putting NVIDIA under pressure it seems they've been able to postpone the retail
launch of GeForce 7950GX2, something that is hard to get confirmation for from
the involved parties.
Even if GeForce 7950GX2 is finally getting closer its launch date, whatever
it may finally be, this does not mean the political problems are over for
NVIDIA's beast. The reason NVIDIA has deactivated Quad SLI with its drivers is
namely not because of the technology itself. Once again it is pressure from
other parties that do not want to see Quad SLI support for the retail market and
therefore GeForce 7950GX2 will only be the fastest graphics card on the market
to begin with, not the fastest system. We've already noticed modified drivers
that activates the support for Quad SLI even with GeForce 7950GX2 and we will be
able to tell you how well these works quite soon.
