Kinc and crotale push even further at DreamHack
Written by Jonas K 02 December 2006 13:50

Now that the first days have passed here at DreamHack Winter 2006 Marcus "Kinc" Hultin and Robert "crotale" Kihlberg have started to get the hardware going. The night between Thursday and Friday they mananged to improve their previous 3DMark03 world record Kinc set just a few days ago. The new 3DMark03 world record is 85,023 points, which is about 800 points more than what Kinc managed to do earlier this week. The results are mainly thanks to a slightly higher CPU frequency, close to 800MHz more actually.

The Core 2 Extreme processor which was used was pushed to 4.8GHz, using liquid nitrogen, during the world record session. A decent frequency, but still far from impressive when you compare it to what they managed to do late Friday. They've namely set their sight on the other world records in the 3DMark series and especially 3DMark05. After beating the 3DMark03 world record using ASUS Striker Extreme they moved on to eVGA Nforce 680i and pushed the frequency to 5.2GHz. Together with a pair of highly overclocked GeForce 8800GTX graphics cards ASUS this resulted in 31,174 3DMarks. Not quite a world record but not far from it.

Already we've seen some really impressive results in our overclocking booth at DH and we can guarantee you that there will be more of this soon. Right now 3DMark05 and 3DMark2001 are the victims, but there is also a couple of QX6700 processors which are waiting for some not so nice treatment in 3DMark06. Until then we have some pictures and specifications from their test sessions performed live during DreamHack Winter 2006.
