Core 2 Extreme X7800 will be the next addition to Intel's series of enthusiast processors based on the Core architecture and those who are wondering about the somewhat odd name there is a good explanation for it. C2E X7800 is namely a part of Intel's mobile processor series. Intel will thus launch the first Merom-based Extreme Edition processor for the laptop market and this is certainly something for those who aren't afraid of hot and power consuming components. C2E X7800 is based on Intel's 65nm Merom core and with a 4MB L2 cache the processors works at 2.6GHz.
Core 2 Extreme X7800 is expected to appear during the second quarter and we will most likely have a new performance leader on the mobile market. The information HKEPC has posted doesn't tell of the processor's DTP though, but even if it will be higher than the rest of Intel's assortment it will be far from the most power-consuming processor we've seen in a laptop. They also mention that Intel is planning yet another C2E processor for the laptop market that will be launched at the end of the year, namely X7900 working at 2.8GHz.
