elmor overclocks Radeon HD 2900 XT CrossFire - New 3DMark 05 world record
Written by Andreas G 09 June 2007 09:49

Overclocker elmor has now shown that Radeon HD 2900 XT CrossFire is the king of 3DMark 05. It wasn't long ago when Kinc managed to set a new single-card 3DMark 05 world record, but elmor has now broken the overall world record with a CrossFire system, using only air cooling for the cards! While the CPU was enjoying some cool liquid nitrogen, the Radeon HD 2900 XTs was still sweating with the stock coolers. Kinc has earlier posted a number of results in the forum that showed what kind of potential there is with these cards and elmor has now given us a taste of what is about to come.

The graphics cards were running at 920/980MHz, while the processor, an Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800, was pushed to 5280MHz (440x12) using a mousepot rev3. The motherboard was (a personal favorite of mine), Abit AW9D-MAX, paired with Teamgroup OPB Edition running at 1:1 3-3-3-4 and a Tagan 1100W power supply.

The motherboard had been modified for better Vcore, Vfsb and Vmch. The Radeon HD 2900 XT is a card that loves PCIe bandwidth more than any other and one of the keys to elmor's results was a PCIe frequency at 169MHz.

Even though this is a very impressive result and nothing but mouthwatering, just the fact that he is still using air cooling makes the mind wander; where will this end?
