Kinc & crotale reaches 24,645 points in 3DMark 06 - #1 in the Hall of Fame
Written by Andreas G 20 June 2007 20:55

Before going to DreamHack we spoke to Intel and ASUS and tried to arrange a good location and some decent hardware so that we could try to break some records at DreamHack Summer 2007. We knew that we would have a pretty sweet spot at ASUS' booth in the B hall with all of the other sponsors, while both Intel and ASUS had come through and delivered hardware worthy of our two overclocking gurus Marcus 'Kinc' Hultin and Robert 'crotale' Kihlberg. With a pair of ASUS GeForce 8800 Ultra and Intel's Core 2 Extreme QX6700 we had a pretty good starting point.

Marcus and Robert are well familiar with this setup so it didn't take long before they managed to reach 24,645 points. The currently highest FM-approved score at the FutureMark ORB.

They pushed the Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6700 to 4942MHz, while the graphics cards were overclocked to 930/2400MHz. The motherboard was of course also from ASUS; ASUS Striker Extreme. There might have been even better results if the motherboard hadn't started acting up, but we're quite satisfied with what we managed to achieve at this year's DreamHack Summer event.

These live performances introduce several new factors to consider and there are a lot more things that can go wrong. It's hard to break records when not under pressure, extremely difficult when doing it Live and in front of 6,000 DreamHack visitors.
