Kinc and ASUS Radeon HD 2900 XT CrossFire scores 25,867 points in 3DMark 06 - A new World Record!
Written by Andreas G 24 July 2007 20:55

A few days ago Shamino made an attempt to take down Kingpin and claim first place at the ORB and the FutureMark Hall of Fame in 3Dmark 06, and he succeeded. He managed to reach 25,733 using a pair of GeForce 8800 Ultras, but the record didn't stand for long. Kinc has been benching for a few days now and been able to beat both Kingpin and Shamino and take first place at the ORB and now holds both the 3Dmark 05 and 06 records. The new record is 25,867 points. The graphics cards are (of course) two ASUS Radeon HD 2900 XT running in a CrossFire configuration alongside of an Intel QX6700 overclocked to 5029MHz.

Both the graphics cards and the processor were cooled with liquid nitrogen. This is a necessity when the GPUs of the cards are overclocked to 1140MHz (1.5V, -65C), memories ran at 960MHz.

The remaining setup was Kinc's faithful ASUS P5W64 and a new pair of Mushkin XP2-6400 running at 449MHz (3-3-3). As we said above, you need liquid nitrogen to keep these babies cool and thanks to two rev2 GPU mousepots the cards remained stable even at these high frequencies. The CPU pot was also a mouspot, rev3. There may even be more to get from the graphics cards.

In fact, AMD/ATI's Radeon 2900 XT now holds both the first and second place in 3DMark 05, and first and third in 3DMark 06. Results are with FutureMark approved drivers. Check out the Hall of Fame unveiling the power of Radeon HD 2900 XT CrossFire.
