Apple iPod Touch, Classic and a new Nano launched
Written by Andreas G 06 September 2007 16:29

iPod Touch became the final name of Apple's rumored touchscreen iPod. Rumors have been going around for more than a year and after that the iPhone was launched, with a design very similar to the concept art of iPod Video (which was the name of the rumored player) the interest cooled down. Well the iPod Video/Touch has now arrived, and it's basically an iPhone without the phone features. Apple has used the same 3.5" touchscreen display and graphical user interface. By removing the GSM support from iPod Touch, Apple has managed to slim down the device even further and iPod Touch is a mere 8 mm thick.

The storage capacity is 8 GB and 16 GB respectively, while the support for wireless networking (802.11b/g) is still there and will make it possible to browse the web or download music through iTunes. The battery time will be up to 22h when playing music and about 5h when watching movies. The price of iPod Touch will be 299 USD for the 8 GB model and 399 USD for the 16 GB model. As expected, Touch uses flash memory for permanent storage, but Apple has also updated its harddrive-based players.

Apple has namely launched iPod Classic, which is more or less an updated version of the regular harddrive iPod. The storage capacity has been improved to 160 GB, but there is also a base model with only 80 GB capacity. The price of the two iPod Classic models is 349 USD and 249 USD respectively.

Last but not least, Apple has also updated its iPod Nano with a completely new and somewhat bigger design. The new Nano series looks like a mix of iPod Classic and Shuffle with a more square shape. Just like iPod Touch and Classic the new Nano series uses an user interface with Cover Flow for browsing the music library and video playback support. The storage capacity is 4 GB and 8 GB respectively and even if the player may look a bit clumsy the measurements are quite meek, 69.8 mm x 52.3 mm x 6.5 mm. The prices will be 149 USD and 199 USD respectively for the new Nano model that will be launched in five different colors.

More information on Apple's new iPod assortment can be found at Apple's website.
