Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650 breaks numerous records at IDF
Written by Andreas G 19 September 2007 12:11

We mentioned in our previous report about Skulltrail that FUGGER of XtremeSystems was performing some Xtreme cooling at this year's Intel Developer Forum. Intel had supplied him with an Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650 (3.0 GHz, 12MB L2 cache, 1,333 MHz FSB, etc.) to do some live overclocking on stage. And so he did, he strapped his huge cascade onto the processor and bumped up the frequency along with the voltage, and it didn't take long before one record after another started to fall. For example a new quad-core frequency world record, a new SuperPi world record, PCMark 05 record, all in all ten world records was broken. The processor came from factory only a few weeks ago and was directly sent to FUGGER, meaning no cherry-picking.

This processor is of the B1 stepping and there will be at least one or two more before it will go retail, but if this is what Penryn can do at this stage, imagine what it will be capable of with an even more perfected die and tuned manufacturing.

You can find more information about FUGGER's appearance at IDF over at XtremeSystems.
