Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650 has conquered the ORB
Written by Andreas G 01 November 2007 09:56

Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650 was unveiled just a few days ago, but already it has started to eradicate the top spots at the Futuremark Online Result Browser, also known as the ORB. We knew that this would happen, but didn't expect it to happen so soon. Last night Greek overclocker hipro5 posted the first major score in 3DMark 2001 SE and climbed to the top of the chart with a score of 105,566 points. The system consisted of an Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650 pushed to 5,650 MHz and a single GeForce 8800 Ultra running at 1012/1243 MHz, which resulted in a shader clock at 2.5 GHz!

The reason he used a single card and not SLI is because SLI hogs the CPU a bit too much and actually gives you a lower overall score than a single card. The same applies to AquaMark 3.

The motherboard was an ASUS P5E3 WS Pro, which means that DDR3 was used. A frequency of 942 MHz and 7-6-5-15 timings is just a tad bit more than what DDR2 can do.

Earlier this week the results from Hellas OC Weekend starring Kingpin, hipro5 and Shamino, crotale and Sampsa's session at Intel and Kinc's own bench sessions were uploaded to the ORB and they all raised the bar a notch or two.

We're currently working on our own review of Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650, it's been a bit delayed, but it's coming soon. In the meantime Kinc has been playing with a new Core 2 Extreme QX9650 week 34, but after discovering a cold bug at -110 °C there wasn't really much he could do, but go back to the week 30 model he had been using for a coaster for a while (just kidding).

The only benchmarks that hasn't been conquered by Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650 so far is 3DMark 03, but to be honest there aren't too top overclockers many using that one anymore, and the question is if we will ever see a new champion there. Kingpin should feel pretty safe there with his 101,649 points.
