Radeon HD 3870 and 3850 are just around the corner now and while we are now certain that the cards will not be able to stand up to the recently launched GeForce 8800 GT, the new pricing will still make it very competitive. The exact performance is still not certain as the reviews will have to wait until next week, but over at VR-Zone they've come across internal slides from AMD where the performance of Radeon HD 3870 and 3850 is compared to that of GeForce 8600 GTS, Radeon 2900 XT and 2600 XT. The only worthy competitor is the 2900 XT and the 3870 does win, but that's still not enough.
They've also published some benchmarks of their own where the Radeon HD 3870 is put up against the GeForce 8800 GT. The 8800 GT outruns the 3870 by 800 points in 3DMark 06; 12495 vs. 11669, with a QX9650 at default clock.
